Four outstanding faculty members from the 51Թ have been selected by the Louisiana Board of Regents to join a group of approximately 100 “Meauxmentum Scholars” from across the state. This initiative, aimed at enhancing student engagement and fostering innovative teaching practices, highlights faculty dedication to excellence in education.
The selected faculty members are:
• Maegan Dobson, Instructor, Mathematics
• Sebastian Figueroa, Assistant Professor, Language and Literature
• Madeline “Maddie” Foster-Martinez, Assistant Professor, Earth and Environmental Science/Civil & Environmental Engineering
• Scott Phillips, Assistant Professor, Healthcare Management
These scholars will participate in Faculty Learning Communities, designed to promote equity in education and advance student engagement. Through their involvement, they will collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement innovative, student-centered teaching strategies.
“We are incredibly proud of Maegan, Sebastian, Maddie, and Scott for their commitment to improving the classroom experience,” said Tina Johnson, associate provost for faculty affairs. “Their participation in the Meauxmentum Scholars program will not only benefit our students but will also contribute to advancing teaching practices throughout the university.”
The scholars are charged with coordinating Faculty Learning Communities learnings with fellow faculty members at 51Թ and fostering collaboration and innovation across various disciplines. The Faculty Learning Communities will meet five times over three months, totaling 7.5 hours, from January 17, 2025 to April 11, 2025. 51Թ faculty members who are interested in joining the Faculty Learning Communities can .
